Too Much Free Time
In high school, I had the bad habit of overbooking myself to the point where I had no time to relax. I
promised myself I wouldn’t do that in college, so the only thing I committed to at the beginning of the
year was the equestrian team. I’m glad that I chose to limit commitments for the fall semester, because
it was a busy semester for classes - I took a calculus class and a programming class that both took up a lot
of my time. This semester, however, I decided after watching a large amount of Netflix each day that I
had too much down time, and got a job at the dining hall.
From experiencing both the overload of activities that happened to me in high school and the lack of
things to do that I went through at the beginning of this semester, I can say that there will never be a time
when everything fits perfectly into your schedule, because there’s always a different amount of things
going on based on the time of the year. I signed up for the dining hall job when my classes weren’t that
busy, and now that they’re busier as finals come closer, I’ve been more busy than I intended to be. That
being said, if you ever feel like you’re overwhelmed and need a break, don’t be afraid to shed some
activities, even if just temporarily. This is something I wish I had learned in high school, because I
believe I would’ve been much less stressed if I hadn’t had quite so much to do.
